FAQ's

  • Is the Guardian Warranty transferable to another homeowner?

Yes, the Guardian Warranty is transferable to another homeowner, but it is important to understand the specific terms and conditions associated with this transfer. The warranty can be transferred one time only from the original purchaser to the first subsequent registered owner of the property (referred to as the "2nd Owner"). Here are the key details and steps for transferring the Guardian Warranty:

Eligibility for Transfer: The transfer is only allowable to the first subsequent owner who must also be the registered owner of the property. If the second owner is an organization, it must be registered as the owner of the property.

Warranty Duration for 2nd Owner: For the 2nd owner, the warranty extends fifty (50) years from the Substantial Completion Date. The coating warranty, part of the overall warranty, is valid for thirty (30) years from the date of Substantial Completion.

    Transfer Procedure:

Notification: The 2nd owner must notify the manufacturer of the transfer by providing proof of purchase of the property.

Transfer Fee: A transfer fee of $300.00 must be paid. This fee should be payable to Interlock Roofing Ltd. and mailed to 9969 River Way, Delta, BC V4G 1M8.

Confirmation: Upon processing, a confirmation email will be sent to the 2nd owner, serving as proof of the warranty transfer.

    Conditions Post-Transfer:

Limited Material Warranty: Once transferred, the warranty covering the materials extends fifty years from the Substantial Completion Date.

Covered Repairs: If there is a Nonconforming Product during the 2nd Owner's warranty term, the manufacturer may cover material costs to repair, refinish, or replace the product. However, all associated labor costs will be the responsibility of the 2nd owner.

Inspection Rights: The manufacturer must be given the first opportunity to inspect any claimed Nonconforming Product.

Warranty on Repairs: Repaired or replaced products are warranted for the remainder of the 2nd owner's term. If 80% or more of the roofing system is replaced under warranty, the warranty will expire after such replacement.

If the Warranty is Not Transferred: If these steps are not followed and the warranty is not officially transferred within sixty (60) days of property transfer, the manufacturer is relieved of all obligations to the 2nd owner.

It's crucial for the 2nd owner to comply with these conditions to maintain the warranty benefits, which ensure continued protection and value of the roofing investment.

  • What is the Coating Warranty for and Interlock Metal Roofing System?

The Coating Warranty for an Interlock Metal Roofing System specifically covers the Alunar® coating applied to the aluminum products. This warranty lasts for a period of thirty (30) years from the Substantial Completion Date. Here are the key aspects of what the Coating Warranty covers:

Chalking Resistance: The warranty guarantees that the Alunar® coating on the aluminum product will not chalk excessively. Chalking is measured with a numerical rating of eight (8) or less when assessed according to ASTM D-4214-07 (2015). Chalking refers to the formation of a white, powdery residue on the surface of the coating due to the degradation of the paint film, which can occur over time due to exposure to ultraviolet light.

Colour Fading Resistance: The warranty also ensures that the coated product will not fade or change colour significantly. The allowable change is limited to five (5) Hunter ΔE Units or less, as measured according to ASTM D-2244-16. This standard measures the degree of colour change under normal environmental conditions.

Conditions and Limitations: The warranty specifies that these assurances hold true under normal atmospheric conditions. This excludes environments that are corrosive, aggressive, or industrial in nature—such as those contaminated with acidic or chemical fumes—as these conditions can accelerate the degradation processes of the coating.

Measurement of Colour Change: To assess compliance with the warranty regarding colour change, the colour change must be measured on an exposed painted surface that has been cleaned of surface soils and chalk. These values are compared to those on the original or unexposed painted surface. It’s also noted that fading or colour changes may not be uniform if the surfaces are not equally exposed to the sun and elements.

This Coating Warranty ensures that the aesthetic and functional integrity of the Alunar® coating remains intact over a significant period, protecting your investment and maintaining the appearance of your roof.

  • DIY? Who can install the Interlock Metal Roofing System?

Interlock Metal Roofing Systems must be installed by certified Interlock installers to ensure the installation is done correctly and to maintain the integrity of the Lifetime Limited Warranty. Each Interlock roofing system is custom manufactured to order at our facility in Delta, British Columbia. This process ensures that every roofing system is tailored to specific site conditions and customer needs, which professional installation teams are trained to handle. Using certified installers guarantees that your roof will be installed to the highest standards, preserving its warranty and maximizing its lifespan and performance.

  • Does Interlock Metal Roofing System Have a Minimum Installation Requirement?

The standard minimum order requirement is 12 squares, which supports efficient customer ordering and custom manufacturing processes. If your project requires less than 12 squares, please contact us directly to discuss your specific needs. This minimum helps streamline production and ensures economic feasibility while maintaining our high standards of quality.

In roofing, a "square" is a unit of measurement that is crucial for accurately determining the quantity of roofing material needed for a project. One square is equivalent to 100 square feet (9.29 square meters) of roof surface. This standard unit is employed universally by roofing professionals to efficiently calculate both the amount of materials required and the associated costs. For example, a roof that measures 2,500 square feet is equivalent to 25 squares.

  • Can the Interlock Metal Roofing System be installed on a flat surface?

No, the Interlock Metal Roofing System cannot be installed on flat surfaces. It requires a minimum roof pitch of 3/12 for proper installation and performance. A roof pitch of 3/12 means that the roof rises 3 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal distance. This minimum slope is necessary to ensure adequate water runoff, preventing water accumulation that could lead to leaks and damage over time. For structures with a flatter pitch than 3/12, alternative roofing solutions designed for low or no slope applications would be more appropriate.

For roof slopes that are less than 3/12, which are considered low slope and not suitable for standard metal roofing installations, Interlock Metal Roofing incorporates the use of an IB membrane. This approach ensures effective waterproofing and durability even on minimally sloped or nearly flat roofs.
